Footballer arrested for allegedly assaulting lover


PETALING JAYA: A local footballer has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his lover at a hotel here.

The victim posted a clip on Instagram showing bruises on her arms, and finger as well as a caption saying that she was dealing with trauma and phobia now.

In the post, the woman said he (her lover) promised to be loyal even until they were old.

"But at last, sometimes, women can be fooled by the one she loves, suffering in silence," she posted.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said police received a report from the woman at around 6am on Wednesday (June 7).

"The woman alleged that she had a misunderstanding with her boyfriend who is a Super League football player at a hotel here.

"During the argument, the man hurt her and damaged her mobile phone," he said in a statement on Thursday (June 8).

He said the man was arrested when he came to the Petaling Jaya police headquarters at 2.30pm on June 8 to assist investigations.

"The suspect was later released on police bail. We have classified the case for voluntarily causing hurt.

"We urge the public to refrain from committing crime and to always abide by the law," he said, urging those with information on crime or any offences to contact the Petaling Jaya police operations room at 03-7966 2222.
